It made sense to go to since I teach others how to Think Out of the Box using Critical Thinking skills for ages 13 and up.
I made some excellent contacts including Woody Robertson who is the Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for CollegePlus.
Woody Robertson presenting How to Speed Read
CollegePlus has a mission to prepare students to live life on purpose. They are on the cutting edge of teaching for the 21st century. Instead of a conveyor belt education mentality they use a customized approach to help students achieve their dreams.
Per their website: CollegePlus believes college should be
- Purposeful - Students create a clear goal and defined path for their entire college journey,
- Flexible - CollegePlus Students are in the real world, working, engaging etc. while earning their degree.
- Affordable - CollegePlus helps students earn 15-90 credits before moving to the college of their choice.
Thursday evening before the event I went through the program and saw that Woody Robertson (CollegePlus) was doing a talk on Friday morning and critical thinking was mentioned.
Since my work is on critical thinking I made a beeline to the CollegePlus booth on Friday morning to talk to Woody. We hit it off immediately!
I went to his presentation and it was about the state of the broken education system and what needs to be done to improve it. It was excellent.
In the afternoon Woody did a presentation on speed reading and used my book: The Re-Discovery of Common Sense as a prop. It was pretty cool! See picture at the top.
Another fantastic person from the convention i met is Jean Burk who created: CollegePrepGenius. This system teaches students how to prep for the SAT. Her system is amazing and very successful. She teaches strong critical thinking skills to do test taking.
Overall it was an excellent convention and I learned a lot about the home school culture and people. I found the people intelligent, kind, gentle and FUN.
